As many of you reading this will know, hundreds of people in Chesterfield have been affected by the flooding last week. Homes and business premises have been flooded and forced to close.
Lifehouse church in partnership with Toby Perkins MP and local charities, agencies and businesses have launched a campaign to help raise money for the people and families who have been affected.
The journey so far and how you can help...
On Saturday afternoon on the 21st of October, David received a call from Pastor Paul Hollingworth and the team at Lifehouse Church. We needed to do something urgently to help all of the people affected, we discussed our options and decided to set up the GoFundMe page so we could start raising money and offer support to all those who needed it.
David and Abbie got married at Lifehouse Church and have been a regular part of the community ever since so they both wanted to do anything they could to help support this campaign.
David and Abbie have been supporting Paul and Sarah by managing the social media updates on the Church's profile and reaching out to all the local people to get the wheels in motion and help everybody get back on their feet. They both sat down and constructed a day-by-day plan to ensure everything ran as smoothly as possible during this tough time for the Chesterfield community.
Meet Paul and Sarah, the senior leaders of Lifehouse Church...
After just 4 days of setting the GoFundMe page up the target of £50,000 had been hit! We could not be more grateful for the support we have received. The campaign is growing day by day with the help of national and local press coverage including, radio interviews with BBC Sheffield and BBC Look North who have also covered the story. Again, we are so grateful we have been able to raise this amount of money and awareness so that we can help rebuild the community within Chesterfield.
With this encouraging milestone hit and our great community still donating to the page, we are now aiming for a £75,000 target to aid the flood victims.
The donations are managed by a dedicated team to ensure that the distribution is transparent and effective, prioritising the needs of the households impacted the most by the floods.
If you would like to get involved and support the people of Chesterfield who have been affected by the floods we have listed four ways you can help the community...
Four ways you can help:
1. Donate via GoFundMe - The GoFundMe page continues to serve as the primary platform for contributions, welcoming any and all support from those willing to contribute to the cause.
2. Volunteer - If you're local to Chesterfield and can help us clean peoples homes, move furniture, or even in the future help with redecorating and painting please get in touch with Lifehouse Church.
3. Send Resources - In the short term, the community of volunteers are in desperate need of protective clothing, gloves and cleaning products. In the long term, homes will need living essentials so if you can provide anything such as fridges, freezers, sofas, chairs and tables please reach out directly to the Church.
4. Support on Social Media - Finally in order to hit the target of £75,000 we need this to reach as many people as possible. Please continue to support on social media, share with friends, family and anyone you may know. If you're not local to Chesterfield and hear about this campaign please support it from a distance.
We are also pleased to hear that the Government has announced support for flood-hit areas from Storm Babet.
On behalf of Lifehouse church, Paul & Sarah, David and all the volunteers we'd like to say a MASSIVE heartfelt thank you for the donations so far and all the help towards the community of Chesterfield.
