The difference between LinkedIn and other social media platforms - the likes of Facebook and Twitter - is that LinkedIn is a professional networking site used to make business connections, find jobs, and engage with others in similar industries.

LinkedIn is the top professional platform, with over 930 million members from 200 countries and regions worldwide. According to Hubspot, it is also 277% more effective at generating leads and ROI than other social media platforms. Although it's such a powerful platform many business owners are barely scraping the surface of what's possible on LinkedIn.

On LinkedIn, you can create a strong brand presence, highlight your products and services, and position yourself as an industry expert. This platform provides ample opportunities for you to share your knowledge and insights through posts, articles, and videos, which can help you establish your authority and build credibility in your field. And, by consistently engaging with your target audience on LinkedIn, you can:

  • Nurture valuable relationships

  • Drive business growth

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and news.

So, how can you start using LinkedIn effectively?

One of the best ways to get started is to post regular organic content that is relevant to your business or industry. By sharing insights, news, and information that is gripping to your audience, you can establish yourself as a thought leader and build trust with your followers.

LinkedIn recently released data that highlights the importance of posting regular content. Pages that post several times weekly have 6x more followers and their following grows 5x faster than pages that post monthly.

But first of all, you need to…

Optimise your profile

Professionals – particularly salespeople – invest a lot of time and resources in building brands. You’re trained at it – and you’re good at it. But how often do you apply those skills to building your own personal brands?

Here are our top tips to optimise your profile👇

Build a LinkedIn-specific content plan

“FAIL TO PLAN, PLAN TO FAIL” - Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin made a great point, which was reinforced by Content Marketer Joe Pulizzi, who recently revealed that marketers with a documented strategy are 4x more effective. And yet only 36% of marketers in the UK have a documented content marketing strategy. With those kinds of numbers, it’s no wonder that only 42% of marketers feel their content marketing strategy is effective.

Let’s start with 3 planning basics to set you up for content marketing success:

Delegate: Ensure you have someone (or a group of people) dedicated and held responsible for each of your channels.

Follow brand guidelines: Maintain open lines of communication with your brand team to ensure your content reflects a consistent look, voice and tone. Consider creating content guidelines which your team can all follow.

Build a content plan/calendar: Based on your objectives, fill your plan/calendar with a variety of top, mid and lower funnel content to help you engage your audience and achieve your goals. When planning content, try different formats such as short videos, carousels, infographics, polls, images, and text-only content. Structure your LinkedIn posts like this

Scroll stopping headline: Make sure the first sentence of your post hooks people in. It should grab your audience's attention and encourage them to keep reading.

Short Sentences: Include lots of white space, don't just write one big paragraph, most people don't have time to read that. Make your posts as easily digestible as possible.

A Strong Call to Action: Include a call to action in every post, whether that’s telling people to click an external link or simply to like the post. Telling people to engage is the easiest way to get people to engage.
